William A. Draves
William A. Draves is an educator, author, futurist and President of the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the largest continuing education association in the world, serving more than 1,000 colleges, universities, schools and other education organizations.
With co-author Julie Coates, they have written several books, including “Smart Boys, Bad Grades: Gender Inequality and STEM in Education,” “The Pedagogy of the 21st Century,” and “Nine Shift: Work, life and education in the 21st Century,” which received national and international media attention.
Draves has keynoted education conferences around the world, including in Japan, Australia, Russia, Germany, Slovenia, England, Mexico and throughout Canada and the United States.
He teaches “Gender Matters” for teachers, with graduate credit from Framingham State University; and is an adjunct professor in the adult and higher education masters degree program at the University of South Dakota.
Draves has been interviewed by The New York Times, Washington Post, NBC Nightly News, NPR, and other national media. The BBC flew its Global Business Reporter from China to Wisconsin to interview him and Coates for a radio program that aired worldwide.
Julie and he have mentored about 18 young people, mostly boys, including boys of color. His current research includes gender in the online classroom and the parallels between the crisis for boys and education today and 100 years ago.
