Brilliant Bob Kids Books are great picture books for young boys overcoming fear. These stories would be perfect for parents to read to their children. Each one focuses on a different characteristic that is important for children to embody. They cover topics such as being brave, strong, curious, stoic, and persistent. Brilliant Bob is the main character who gains confidence in himself and always pushes himself to the limit. Reading these stories to your son(s) might inspire him to try new things too.

First, Book 1 is Brilliant Bob is Brave. In this story, we are introduced to Brilliant Bob. He was born on a day when there was a blue full moon and his parents came up with this name because they knew he was really special. However, he still wasn’t very special by the time he was eight. Brilliant Bob was a really shy kid. He loved playing with his toys and was great at building things, but he didn’t have friends and felt even more lonely seeing different kids playing together. However, he stayed to himself because he was worried that people would make fun of him if they saw him make mistakes. He was also afraid of so many things:

  • The dentist
  • The dark
  • Animals – Dogs, cats, lizards, and worms
  • Girls
  • Monsters
  • The creepy lady who lived next door

Unfortunately, Brilliant Bob didn’t see anything wrong with being so fearful. He also was very stubborn and picky. He didn’t want to try new things, especially when it came to food. Some of his teeth were in pain because of all the chocolate and candy he eats, but he didn’t want to tell his parents because he was afraid of the dentist. He didn’t even want to go to bed at night because he was afraid of the dark and would have his dad tell him the longest bedtime stories.

Eventually, Brilliant Bob realized there was something wrong and that he shouldn’t let fear keep him from putting himself out there and trying new things. One night, he noticed a blue full moon outside his window and remembered his parents telling him about the one on his birthday. Something inside him had changed and he was no longer letting fear take over. He was now strong and brave. He gained so much more confidence to be able to try new things.

His parents noticed the changes and were very proud. He opened up to them about how he needed to go to the dentist, and he was starting to eat lots of vegetables and every meal that his parents made. Brilliant Bob even decided to join the other kids playing kickball during recess. When he was beginning to feel anxious about joining, he reminded himself, “I am Brilliant Bob. I can do this. I don’t want to miss out any longer.”

In Conclusion, this story discusses the importance of overcoming your fears. Being so afraid will only leave you feeling worse about yourself and your abilities. Confidence is important, but taking the actual steps to put yourself out there and reach out to people will make you more comfortable with yourself. Baby steps are big steps too. This story is important for young boys to hear, even before they may struggle with overcoming fear.
