Your son won’t just be listening to the story. He will be on the edge of his seat because you never know what is coming up. At the end of each book, there are different activities for the family to do. Important topics are covered in these short stories. There is always something new to gain from BRAVE Books.

First, The Island of Free Ice Cream is an exciting story. The title and colorful book cover alone will have your child excited. It begins with, “Welcome to Freedom Island, Home of the Brave, where good battles evil and truth prevails” before the story even begins. It tells of a city named Rushington which is the happiest city in Wiggamore Woods. Rushington Market is the busiest spot where all of the animals could buy and sell whatever they like. Asher the Fox always sold the most because he had the most creative inventions that helped make everyone’s lives better such as cranes for building, tractors for plowing, and special tape that could fix almost anything.

Everyone was happy until three wolves came along, convincing everyone that they’d get ice cream for free if they were put in charge. Asher did not trust the wolves and knew it was too good to be true, but everyone was naive and voted for the wolves to be in charge. The wolves put Asher on the catapult and sent them away. He ended up in another city, Utopia Island, where more wolves had also promised everyone free ice cream and were in charge. The wolves ended up taking the ice cream for themselves and fed everyone moldy macaroni. When Asher found this out, he ended up building a secret submarine to get back to Rushington and warn everyone. When he told everyone what was going on, the wolves were voted out. Asher sent them away on a huge catapult.

Next, each of the BRAVE Books touches on important topics that families can discuss even when the story is over. The Island of Free Ice Cream covers communism and capitalism and there are more coming up in the saga:

  • Family
  • Cancel Culture
  • Critical race theory
  • Gender identity
  • Sanctity of life

In Conclusion, this story is entertaining and great for family time.  Even when the story ends, quality time still continues. The activities in the book only further the fun and quality time with family which all include teamwork. If you are having trouble getting your son to pick up a book, then BRAVE Books are perfect for you!
