After School Alliance

The American Assembly for Men in Nursing
The mission of American Assembly for Men in Nursing is to provide a framework for nurses, as a group, to meet, to discuss and influence factors which affect men as nurses.
Black Youth Project.com
The Black Youth Project was a national research project launched in 2003 that examined the attitudes, resources, and culture of African American youth ages 15 to 25, exploring how these factors and others influence their decision-making, norms, and behavior in critical domains such as sex, health, and politics.Understanding the need to make this data available to a wider constituency beyond the academy Professor Cathy Cohen, the Black Youth Project’s principle investigator, decided to create an online hub for Black youth where scholars, educators, community activist, youth allies, and youth could access the study’s research summaries as well as have access to a plethora of resources concerning the empowerment and development of black youth.

An organization dedicated to helping young men, “increase academic skills, to increase college success, and to develop the confidence, drive, and determination to contribute to American society.”
BAM! Boys Advocacy and Mentoring
BAM! was founded by three Portland, Oregon area counseling professionals having over thirty years of combined experience working with boys and their families. Through this direct experience and extensive research, they came to see that many of boys’ difficulties arise from limited relational abilities in an increasingly relational world. Noting a lack of resource material on the subject, they discussed practical methods for developing these skills, and subsequently developed the BAM! Group Guidebook.

Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, George Washington University
The Center for Health and Health care in Schools supports the good health of children and adolescents by working with parents, teachers, health professionals and school administrators to strengthen successful health programs at school.
City Year
At City Year’s 21 locations across the United States, teams of diverse young people called corps members serve full-time in schools for 10 months working to improve student attendance, behavior and course performance in English and math.
Coalition for Community Schools
The Coalition for Community Schools, housed at the Institute for Educational Leadership, is an alliance of national, state and local organizations in education K-16, youth development, community planning and development, family support, health and human services, government and philanthropy as well as national, state and local community school networks.
Edutopia
The George Lucas Educational Foundation is dedicated to improving the K-12 learning process by documenting, disseminating, and advocating for innovative, replicable, and evidence-based strategies that prepare students to thrive in their future education, careers, and adult lives.
Family Reunion
This national nonprofit organization gives a voice to children whose parents are divorced, separated, or were never married. Family Reunion educates the public, media, and lawmakers on the importance of ‘shared parenting’ that grants both parents equal rights, responsibilities, and parenting time, to the major benefit of children. Their website hosts educational programs, videos, media, social networking campaigns, and advocacy programs outlining the issues created by destructive family laws and policies and the current adversarial court system that discounts one parent. Their committee works with existing organizations, experts, and individuals and also reaches out to policymakers at State and federal levels.
The Foundation for Male Studies
The Foundation for Male Studies actively funds, advocates and creates programs on male studies in universities and colleges across the nation.
The Forum for Youth Investment
The Forum for Youth Investment is a nonprofit, nonpartisan “action tank” dedicated to helping communities and the nation make sure all young people are Ready by 21®: ready for college, work and life. Informed by rigorous research and practical experience, the Forum forges innovative ideas, strategies and partners to strengthen solutions for young people and those who care about them. A trusted resource for policy makers, advocates, researchers and program professionals, the Forum provides youth and adult leaders with the information, connections and tools they need to create greater opportunities and outcomes for young people.
Fulfillment Fund
As a college access organization, the Fulfillment Fund provides first-generation, low-income students with the support necessary to graduate from high school and go on to college. Through classroom instruction, college counseling, mentoring and scholarships, we transform the lives of students, beginning in high school and extending to college graduation. Our impact spans beyond the students we serve directly. They, in turn, influence siblings, peers and their community by becoming role models, volunteers, mentors and donors.
The Future of Children
The Future of Children is a collaboration of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and the Brookings Institution. The mission of The Future of Children is to translate the best social science research about children and youth into information that is useful to policymakers, practitioners, grant-makers, advocates, the media, and students of public policy. The project publishes two journals and policy briefs each year, and provides various short summaries of our work. Topics range widely – from income policy to family issues to education and health – with children’s policy as the unifying element. The senior editorial team is diverse, representing two institutions and multiple disciplines.
The Gurian Institute
Founded in 1996, the Gurian Institute is a network of gender experts who help professionals increase student achievement, teacher effectiveness, and parent involvement. Products and services are targeted to Early Childhood and Head Start professionals, K – 12 schools, and community and mentoring agencies. The Institute has trained more than 50,000 teachers and staff in more than 2,000 schools and districts.
It Gets Better
In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry to inspire hope for young people facing harassment. In response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, they wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better. Two months later, the It Gets Better Project (TM) has turned into a worldwide movement, inspiring nearly 10,000 user-created videos and over 30 million views.
Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies
The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies works to inform and illuminate the nation’s major public policy debates through research, analysis, and information dissemination, with the goal of improving the socioeconomic status of African Americans and other people of color, expanding their effective participation in the political and public policy arenas, and promoting communications and relationships across racial and ethnic lines to strengthen the nation’s pluralistic society.

MensENews.org was founded in 2008 by experts involved in men, boys, and family related issues who believed that an educational website was needed and could play an important role in society. Men’s E-News has four weekly newsletters, RSS News Feeds that you can add to your website, and our library contains books relating to men and boys issues, as well as, articles written by our writing team composed of national leading experts. Men’s E-News updates it’s website daily with new events, news articles, and research and data relevant to the health and well-being of men, boys, and families.
Mens Health Network
Men’s Health Network (MHN) is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to reach men and their families where they live, work, play, and pray with health prevention messages and tools, screening programs, educational materials, advocacy opportunities, and patient navigation.
Menstuff
Menstuff.org is the starting point for information for and about men on the web. Menstuff is an educational web site which serves a diverse mens community. Menstuff has 65 columnist reporting on a weekly or monthly basis. Menstuff lists thousands of on-site men’s book reviews & covers, men’s resources and hyperlinks and hundreds of events, periodicals and groups. It provides information on hundreds of men’s issues regarding positive change in male roles and relationships including kidstuff, teenstuff, abuse, violence, and spirituality.
National Association for Single Sex Public Education
NASSPE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2002, dedicated to the advancement of single-sex public education for both girls and boys. NASSPE has three major missions:
- To provide professional development opportunities for teachers, sharing the latest research about different teaching strategies for girls and boys.
- To serve as a resource for teachers, parents and administrators considering single-sex educational programs.
- To provide a clearinghouse for relevant facts and information about public schools and classrooms in the United States, as well as to promulgate new research.
National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy seeks to improve the lives and future prospects of children and families and, in particular, to help ensure that children are born into stable, two-parent families who are committed to and ready for the demanding task of raising the next generation. Our specific strategy is to prevent teen pregnancy and unplanned pregnancy among single, young adults. We support a combination of responsible values and behavior by both men and women and responsible policies in both the public and private sectors.

Office of Adolescent Health
The Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) coordinates adolescent health promotion and disease prevention programs and initiatives across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). OAH was established through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010, within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health.
Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide
The core values that define SPTS and its founding board are:

Youth Transitions Funders Group
The Youth Transition Funders Group is a network of grantmakers whose mission is to help all youth make a successful transition to adulthood by age 25. Most young people make a safe passage from adolescence to adulthood with the support of their families, caring adults, communities, and schools. However, youth with few supports – such as teens aging out of the foster care system, youth who don’t finish high school, or youth in the juvenile justice system – need help to find the right path to success.
